The sun's rays dazzle you, the far-off the cries of seagulls mingle with the sound of boat engines and halyards clinking against masts in the wind.
You can almost taste the salt carried by the spray on your lips. This is how you feel standing in front of Régiss' work.
"It is an invitation to travel", explains the artist. "The universe is always the same. I paint what I feel when I am at the water's edge, but not necessarily what I see".
Régiss, a fervent homebird, a great immobile traveler, as he likes to describe himself, is the first to admit that he does not have sea legs.
It is my life's great tragedy; I cannot set foot on a boat! I travel only in my head, I never go away.
I don't feel the need. My paintings are inspired by my childhood memories, holidays spent at the seaside, whether it be a beach in Brittany, or a lakeside in Lower Normandy not far from Flers,
my home town."
Each canvas in effect portrays one or more sailors wearing the characteristic stripy pullover and red pompommed hat who find themselves in either humorous or comical, yet always endearing,
situations, under the watchful and knowing gaze of the seagulls. "They are always about friendship, evoking the desire to get away".
