Jean OSTOVANY is adept at mixed techniques, he works on canvas or paper, dry pastel inks and acrylics, adding seeds or walnut stain to reveal,
especially in his seascapes, both movement and immensity in the darkest contrasts that he declines to infinity. In 2018, his material of
wood ash, which is skilfully mixed with acrylic before being applied, and which is also used to finalise the works by projection method.
This material seems to be the symbol of the sublimation of nature in its infinite splendour. The artist plays with the material effects thus created with great
spontaneity, seeking to surprise the viewer a little more. The palette serves perfectly a will of omnipresent sobriety, playing also on the values of black and grey,
white and ochre.
